“This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins“. (1 John 4:10)

Love is ultimately what we all desire to have and to feel. We search for it; sometimes in the wrong places and the wrong people where real love is not to be found. Relationships are tough and, for many, the word love has left a bitter experience as their relationships with loved ones have failed.

I searched the Bible for verses on love and found that a frequent adjective used for God’s love was—unfailing.

Of all the adjectives that could possibly be used to describe God’s love, unfailing is the one that best and fully describes it. How great is it to know that God’s love is different in such a way that it is a real love that will never fail us.

I need to remember that and probably you too.

“The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.” (Psalms 103:8)

“For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.” (Psalms 57:10)

This last week as we wait for Christmas, the invitation is to rely and trust in God’s unfailing love. I’m going to remember that the greatest demonstration of love is here and was sent for me.

Real, unfailing love came as a person. He was sent as the best gift ever for all of us; unwrapped in a humble manger. No need for precautions, I can confidently dive into that love and let its fullness cover me completely, because that love will never fail me.

I aim to anchor my life in that unfailing love. I know I can trust the unfailing love of God. I can put my hope in it and I can receive the joy and peace that only comes from being in that love. God’s unfailing love is the guide that we all need as we relate to others. When we love like he loved us, his glory magnifies in us and we show to others that he is in us also.

Your search for love in the fragility and imperfection of people can end. Instead, you can be made complete as you experience God’s love (Ephes. 3:19).

Real love.

Unfailing love is here for you and me.

Dwell in it. Follow it. Trust it. Be complete in it.

And then, see your life take a whole different meaning and path. This is the greatest gift ever, that Jesus was sent out of perfect and unfailing love, so that we may be forgiven and our lives can be change as we live in God’s love.

But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love forever and ever.” (Psalms 52:8)
