Do you ever think about your future and your life? Some people are very proactive in making plans for their life and their future while others may lack the sense of direction to proceed in knowing what to do. You may be that go-getter type of person who has it all figured out for the next 10 years or so; or you may be that person living the day and still with room to think about what could be next.
Whoever of these type of persons you are, it doesn’t really matter. I’ll tell you why.
Parenting keeps teaching me about God and how he relates to us. I have been excitingly waiting to see my son reach some milestones in his growth and finally, as I see him grow, I have started to picture his life and make plans for his life and things that we could do together.
“Oh, the places you’ll go.”—is the back of my head all the time as I, inevitably, smile while looking at him. I have learned that our parenting heart, as good as it can be, could never measure up to God’s heart for us as our heavenly father.
Jesus said:
“So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.” (Matthew 7:11)
Just imagine, how great his goodness and his plans could be for our lives. So you may have a plan for your life, or you may not and it doesn’t really matter, because the truth is that wherever we are in life, we are just a child to his great and majestic eyes. He is looking at us, while he ponders on his wonderful plans for us, just waiting for us to grow into them.
He said in Jeremiah:
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (29:11)
It doesn’t matter how much time and effort you spend planning your life out. God has his own plan for your life, he knows you, he created you and his plans will always be far more better than yours. He thinks about you in a greater capacity than you could ever think about yourself and he knows what you could do in his hands, more than you could ever imagine.
He said in Isaiah:
“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (55:8-9)
So wherever you are in life, I want to encourage you to discover and follow God’s plan for your life. Throw out your planning if you need to and start growing into his. We discover God’s plan for our lives as we pursue him, grow and mature in the faith following his footsteps. God is looking at you right now, like you are his child and he delights in you and in knowing everything that he could do in you, through you and with you.
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.” (Zeph. 3:17)
Let’s turn the steering wheel today. Decide to just go in the direction of discovering Him. He has his very own plans for your life. Plans that not even you could imagine. Follow him and he will show you. And then, just grow into them.
“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Eph. 3:20)
